The Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor AbdulGaniyu Ambali made this known yesterday while addressing the management of the Spelling 'B' Competition who paid him a courtesy call in his office.
Professor Ambali said the University of Ilorin was ready and would be glad to associate with corporate organisations and private individuals that are saddled with the responsibility of promoting the standard of education in the country.
He said the University would leave no stone unturned in providing necessary support to the WOCWI to ensure that it recorded more successes in its Spelling 'B' Competition, saying that government alone could not shoulder the responsibility of providing sound and qualitative education in the country but required collective responsibility.
Professor Ambali commended the organisers of the competition for bringing back the past cultures Nigeria had neglected in education system, and expressed hope that the competition would go a long way in enriching students' academic performance and encourage them to be meticulous in their studies.
Earlier in her address, the leader of the team, Dr Abiola Adimula who doubles as founder of WOCWI said the idea of Spelling 'B' Competition was conceived jointly by the state Ministry of Education, WOCWI and LEHA Charity Foundation, a pet project of the wife of the Kwara State Governor, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed with the first edition in 2010.
Adimula who is also a member of Editorial Board, University of Ilorin bulletin said the competition has been very helpful to the participating students drawn across the three senatorial districts in the state.
She said the best 10 winners of the competition received cash donations, prizes and free trip abroad among other benefits.
She therefore sought for University support in the areas of fund and logistics to enable them carry out the program effectively and efficiently.
