The Emir of Ilorin, Alhaji Ibrahim Sulu Gambari, earlier today organized a special prayer to seek divine intervention for peace and stability of Kwara State and Nigeria as a whole before, during and after the general elections.
The prayer session which was led by the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Soliu, took place at Sheikh Alimi praying house, Emir's palace, Ilorin.
The Emir, at the prayer session, said he personally initiated the prayer to seek divine intervention as the country prepares for the general elections.
He said the prayer was very necessary at this critical moment considering the tension which the incoming general elections had generated across the country.
While warning political office seekers to shun do-or-die and bloody politics, the monarch said the prayer was organized to quench the tension which the general elections had created.
He stressed the need for Nigerians to remain calm and peaceful in their conducts before, during and after the polls, describing peace as panacea to the development of any society.
The Emir noted that no meaningful development could take place in an atmosphere of rancour and acrimony.
He said the prayer was held at Sheikh Alimi's praying house to fast-track its acceptance by the Almighty Allah.
The Chief Imam, Alhaji Soliu while leading other eminent religious leaders, prayed for peace and stability of Kwara State and Nigeria in general before, during and after the general elections.
The Muslim leader who stressed the importance of efficacy of prayers at the critical period which the country was passing through, called on Nigerians to go back to Allah and seek His intervention.
Former and serving Grand Khadis of Kwara State, Justice Abdulkadir Imam Fulani (rtd), Justice Idris Haroon (rtd) and Justice S. O. Muhammad who spoke with our reporter shortly after the session, described the prayer as timely.
They urged politicians to see politics as a service to humanity and not do-or-die affairs in the interest of peace and stability of the country.
The jurists, who commended the Emir for his exemplary leadership quality and passion for peace and tranquility of the country which prompted him to organize the prayer, hoped that the general elections would be peaceful through divine intervention.
