Property worth millions of naira have been destroyed following a fire outbreak that gutted about seven shops at Jengbe, Ipata Oloje Area of Ilorin.
Eyewitness account said that the fire, which started in the early hours of
Tuesday, destroyed goods and valuable items.
Though the cause of the fire could not be ascertained, some residents attributed it to electrical fault from one of the shops.
No life was lost to the inferno while there was no record of injuries.
Meanwhile, the Special Adviser to the Kwara State Governor on Emergency Management and Relief Services, Barrister Abdulazeez Ibraheem and the Special Assistant on Emergency Management and Relief Services, Alhaji Abdulrahman Sofiu, were at the scene of the incidence to assess the extent of destruction by the inferno.
Ibraheem acknowledged that no life was lost but lamented that the incident could have been averted.
He appealed to the victims to take heart and promised that the state government would respond to their plight so that the affected shops could be renovated immediately.
Responding, one of the victims of the inferno, Mr Kazeem Aluko, who spoke on behalf of others, expressed appreciation to the state Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed, for responding to the situation promptly.
He described the visit as a sign of great relief to them and appealed to the government and other public spirited individuals to come to their aid, stressing that they want assistance in terms of finance to be able to restart their businesses.
Aluko promised that they would continue to support Governor Ahmed in his second term bid.
