Protest greets choice of Kwara PDP guber candidate

The peace and harmony of Kwara state was briefly disrupted earlier today as members of the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) took to the streets in Ilorin, protesting against the emergence of Senator Simon Ajibola as governorship candidate of the party in the
state.
While chanting anti-Ajibola war songs the protesters blocked the entrance to the party secretariat along Asa-Dam road, thus leading to serious traffic gridlock on the highway.
Armed with different placards, which majorly described Ajibola as a stooge of the All Progressives Congress, an unsellable candidate among others, the demonstrators prevented party officials from gaining entrance into the secretariat while security personnel were on hand to forestall any breakdown of law and order.
In a chat with journalists, one of the protesters, Seyi Thomas, alleged that the primary election that produced Ajibola was not transparent contrary to the belief in certain quarters, as original delegates were chased away.
He added that as a Senator that has not sponsored a single bill, he was not fit to carry the flag of the party in the state, calling on the party's National leadership to prevail on him to step down for a popular
candidate to emerge.
Another protester who identified himself simply as Wasiu declared that members of Kwara PDP would not accept Senator Ajibola as their candidate.
He said there were irregularities during the party primary, which was the reason Ajibola could have won the primary.
Wasiu said that even if PDP was bent on taking the governorship slot to Kwara South, Ajibola was not the best candidate from the zone.
He challenged Senator Ajibola to mention his achievements as a Senator for the past 10 years of his representation at the upper arm of the National Assembly.
Wasiu therefore appealed to the leaders and executives of the party both at the State and National levels to pick another person that can win Kwara for the PDP.
